The decline of account value from a prior peak to a subsequent trough.
Explanation
Drawdown measures downside path risk and strategy stress. Two approaches can have similar returns but very different drawdown profiles, affecting survivability and psychology.
Example
If equity falls from $120,000 peak to $102,000 trough, drawdown is 15%.
